The Decol family of typefaces was, similarly to Avioflex, developed for the Dutch Aviation Museum ‘Aviodrome’.

One of the main attractions of this museum is a replica of the original Schiphol departure hall as built in 1929. Since the original building was destroyed in 1940, the replica is based on blue prints, drawings and photographs.

To replicate the blackboard with the timetable of departures and arrivals, this family of three typefaces – two sans serif and one serif variant – was drawn. A small number of photographs taken on 20 August 1931 was the only source.
